I'm not sure I agree with you on the motivation to make music, Peter. Well over 99% of all people who start bands never make a penny - with my economics hat on that really doesn't sound like a money motivated occupation!

I wish I could contribute much, but you'd just laugh at my pedestrian choices. So I'm going to name the two least likely thing you might expect from me - if you've always disliked rap, though, I'd recommend Aesop Rock by Labor Days - well worth an experimental purchase. And if you want something implausibly strange try David Byrne singing in french on 'Au Fond Du Temple Saint' on his album Grown Backwards.
